Meeting the needs of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries through personalized, non-clinical caregiver support

Aetna Medicare now offers access to CareLinx, a national caregiver network. It’s available to select 2019 Individual Medicare Advantage plan members in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey and Washington.

What is CareLinx?
CareLinx is a nationwide network of over 300,000 non-clinical caregivers. By going online or downloading an app, seniors and their loved ones can find, hire and schedule affordable and qualified in-home care professionals. And the care they get is all based on their needs. Eligible Aetna® members receive a specified amount of hours at no extra cost. They can also get a discount off the service fee for more hours.

Many older adults and their loved ones need more support. We want to help people maintain their overall health and well-being. According to the 2015 “Caregiving in the U.S.” report from the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP:

  • Three in five care recipients (59 percent) have a long-term physical condition.
  • More than one-third (35 percent) has a short-term physical condition.
  • One quarter (26 percent) has a memory problem.
  • More than one-third (37 percent) has more than one ongoing problem or illness.

And nearly half of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries (43.6 percent) reported that they have trouble with at least one activity of daily living. And one-third (32.6 percent) reported that they struggle with two or more.

Extra support — when and where it’s needed most
Aetna is committed to helping members age and thrive on their terms. We want to give them resources so they can care for themselves, or have support they can rely on. We want them to feel safe in their homes and communities and have a sense of purpose. With CareLinx, members can find caregivers to help with a range of daily living activities. These include things like taking medicine, meal preparation, non-medical transportation and light housekeeping.

“Finding a qualified caregiver who can help you or your loved one can be challenging,” said Christopher Ciano, head of Aetna Medicare. “Resources like CareLinx will simplify the process and will connect Aetna Medicare members to qualified caregivers who can join us in supporting our members’ individual needs, preferences and overall health goals.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce CareLinx to eligible Aetna Medicare members,” said Sherwin Sheik, president and chief executive officer of CareLinx. “Working with Aetna, we’ll provide a bridge to appropriate support, increase social connectedness and positively impact overall well-being.”
