Compliance Connection: Final Rule on Association Retirement Plans Takes Effect

Effective September 30, 2019, a US Department of Labor final rule allows small employers to band together to offer retirement plans to their employees through association retirement plans.
The new rule provides an additional option for meeting the definition of employer under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and outlines when an employer group or association or a professional employer organization can sponsor a multiple employer workplace retirement plan.
