The economic blowback from COVID-19 has been severe, and for some, that has meant making sacrifices. Unfortunately, many people have chosen to forgo their dental check-ups completely in the midst of the pandemic, whether it be from taking precautionary measures to avoid exposure or to simply save money.

According to a study done by Ameritas, only 66% of seniors have visited a dentist in the last year, and only 29% of seniors even have dental insurance. Nearly 8% of seniors avoid dental care altogether due to cost concerns.

With the variety of affordable options available on the market, seniors shouldn’t feel that they need to skip their dental appointments to avoid incurring high costs.

Your older clients may be worried about visiting the dentist due to the continued precautions, but they should know that a few allowances have been implemented during the pandemic:

  • Elimination of dental deductible. The deductible for all dental claims incurred July 1 through December 31, 2020 will be waived. Plan benefits kick in immediately. The deductible waiver does not apply to orthodontia claims.
  • Elimination of dental exam and cleaning frequency limitations. Ameritas dental plans typically cover the cost of one or two exams and cleanings annually. The frequency limitation will be waived July 1 through December 31, 2020, so clients may see the dentist as often as necessary.

These new allowances are the perfect opportunity for you to review your clients’ current dental plans, or to introduce those without a plan to something that might work for them.
